- Note: This practice is called tithing.
Supporting arguments
The LDS Church teaches, on the basis of Genesis 14:17-20 and Malachi 3:10, that tithing is correct Christian practice, in order to support the Church's activities. [1]
This is the minimum amount acceptable according to the Biblical interpretations of The Way International, particularly Genesis 14 and Malachi 3:7-12. [2]
Opposing arguments
Nothing obligates modern Christians to tithe, and doing so can be injurious to their financial wellbeing with no benefits. [3]

There is no Biblical basis for mandatory tithing of any amount of money. [4]
