People in most workplaces have to deal with any difficulties that might arise when homosexual and heterosexual people have to work together. The military should not be an exception to this rule. It is a basic feature of modern society.

People of many different types currently serve together in militaries, including those of different races and sexes. There is no reason that sexual orientation can't be handled in a similarly unobtrusive way.

Homosexuals and heterosexuals already serve together in many militaries. This has not resulted in any harm or decrease in effectiveness.

Many military forces are strongly professional and team-oriented, and will have no difficulty adapting to new team members, even if they are homosexual.

Sexual orientation has no impact on the factors that are important to the military's goals, therefore, there are no barriers to integration of this type.

The debate over accepting homosexuals into military forces is analagous to the United States integrating its armed forces racially. Many dire predictions were made at that time, that integration would cause harm and reduce the effectiveness of the military. These predictions did not pan out.

Opposing arguments

People in the military sleep and shower together, and otherwise live too closely with each other to avoid causing stress and tension when the presence of homosexual people facilitates the existence of homosexual attraction.  Related argument: Military prohibitions on homosexuality are effective at reducing the sexual tension caused the possible existence of homosexual soldiers.

This point applies only in Turkey. Due to the unique nature of how same-sex sexual behavior occurs among men in Turkey, homosexuals can not be effectively integrated into the Turkish military.
