Supporting arguments

The LDS movement sees Jesus as the Christ and believe that he suffered for the sins of humanity. They worship him and seek salvation. This is sufficient to qualify them as a Christian denomination. [1] [2]

Anyone who self-identifies as Christian (including the LDS movement) should be considered to be Christian. [3]

All Christian denominations have varying beliefs, and the LDS movement is no different. Having variant beliefs is not sufficient to be unchristian. [4]

Opposing arguments

Mormons have unusual views of Jesus and God, and recognize Joseph Smith as a prophet, all of which disqualify them as truly Christian. [5] [6]

The LDS movement is no more similar to Christianity than Islam is, as both religions recognize Jesus as a prophet, just not the most recent one. [7] [8]

God commands people to worship no gods but him, yet Mormons worship Moroni. This makes them unchristian. [9]

The LDS movement is a separate Abrahamic religion, analogous to Christianity, Islam and Judaism. It is not a denomination of any other religion. [10]

It is highly unchristian to believe that people can become gods after they die, which is a tenet of the LDS movement. [11]

Since the Nicene Creed has become widespread, it is now required to be considered truly Christian. The LDS movement does not use the Nicene Creed. [12]

God consists of three divine persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (common Christian Trinitarianism)The Godhead consists of three separate beings: God the father, Jesus and the Holy Ghost (LDS interpretation)

The LDS movement has additional scriptures beyond the Bible, which marks them as unchristian. [14]

In believing that the Christian God is only a god of this world, Mormons have been tricked by Satan. It is Satan that Mormons truly worship, making them unchristian. [15]

Mormons and Christians do not typically recognize each other's baptisms, which signifies that they are separate religions. [16]

The LDS movement does not see Jesus as the son of God, and as a member of the divine Trinity just like God the Father. This makes them unchristian. [17]
